2017 was one eventful year, wasn't it? Of course it had it's ups and downs, but how else would we grow? We wanted to share with you some stories from our year here at AbbyShot. It's amazing how often things change in this industry we love so much, and the opportunities that come with those changes are what makes it so fun!
AbbyShot Celebrates A Birthday!
This year was extra special for the team here at AbbyShot, for it was our 15th anniversary! This impressive (at least to us) milestone came with some big changes, specifically to the look of our brand. AbbyShot has grown and evolved over the past fifteen years and we wanted our brand to reflect that. With a sleek new logo and color scheme, we jump into our 15th year with high expectations and a fresh new look!
Celebrating World Outlander Day In Style.
What better way to celebrate World Outlander Day than to have friends and family join us here in the office for treats and Outlander discussions?! It was great seeing so many Outlander fans come together, especially in our small town of St. John's, Newfoundland. We'll continue this tradition as the numbers grow and look forward to June 1st, 2018! Maybe we'll even take it international ;)
International Research? Yes, please!
We love traveling to the UK!! Owner Bonnie Edgecombe and Lead Product Developer Leanne Avery visited the beautiful country early in 2017 for some much needed research and networking. We also included a visit to the team at BBC Headquarters to discuss the future of Doctor Who and even got to check out some VERY cool costumes for our records and reference down the road. We dropped into some local shops and met some amazing customers who really knew their stuff! We also met with a possible manufacturer, but we'll go into more detail on that at a later date ;)
Taking Tradition Into The 21st Century.
Our very own Grace Shears had the opportunity to present to the "Intangible Cultural Heritage Forum of Newfoundland & Labrador" regarding our artisan line, specifically the Outlander Leather Sporran, Sawny Snake, and Dougal MacKenzie Scottish Bonnet. These items are handmade in Newfoundland by using traditional methods and materials. They have been shipped to many countries across the world. Meeting so many locals who had no idea we created these types of products was truly special, thank you to everyone who made that happen!
Nice To Meet You, Minister!
We love visitors here at the AbbyShot HQ and it's not rare for a "big shot" to pop in! 2017 was no different, with two Ministers of Newfoundland & Labrador visiting on two separate occasions. Earlier in the year we had Seamus O'Regan, the Veterans Affairs Minister drop in and we even got him in a few coats!
Then just recently we had the Minister of Tourism, Minister Hon. Christopher Mitchelmore, who also was on the receiving end of the normal AbbyShot treatment! Both visits were a lot of fun and we can't wait to have you both back again in the future! Hmmm, next on the list....Justin Trudeau perhaps?
Supporting A Worthy Cause.
Nothing feels better than donating to a good cause! This year we decided to take proceeds from our handmade, Jamie Fraser's Sawny Snake sales to donate to Bloodwise, a UK based charity dedicated to funding research into all blood cancers. Sam Heughan himself is known to donate to this charity, so it was only fitting!
Cosplay, As Far As The Eye Can See!
Fan Expo in Toronto, Canada is a convention we have had a booth at for the past 4 years, but this year we decided not to sell at the event. We sent our very own Adam Martin to the event to walk the floor, meet some shops carrying our products, and to chat with some longtime customers. It was a little sad to not have a booth this year, but it was lots of fun to walk the floors as a guest instead of an exhibitor. Adam got some great shots at the event and worked his magic to compile some clips into a video. Watch it below!
What a year it was! On behalf of the entire AbbyShot team, we hope your 2018 is the best year yet, filled with friends, family, and happiness!
