Officially licensed materials are all the rage. Who has the biggest piece of the pie is what studios seem to be reaching for. And this is fine with us because in return we get great content! If I’m going to spend my hard earned money on a movie, I want to be transported to a place I wouldn’t normally go and connect with characters I’m unlikely to meet. Two of the studios who do this best are Marvel and DC Comics.
It seems there have been a lot of people going back and forth between these two studios as to who will make the best movies…who has the stronger franchise, etc.. On the one hand we have Marvel. Putting their connection with Disney aside for the moment, they already have a proven track record. The X-Men have been around for so long now, over a decade, that rumour has it they’ll soon be retiring. We’ve seen Captain America, Iron Man and the Hulk on the big screen independently of each other and we’re gearing up for the second Avengers combination. We’ve also had countless Batman and Superman movies over the years. And they have been super well received (pun intended). In fact, they have won 4 Oscars.
Ultimately, does it matter which universe smashes the other? Aren’t all of these superheroes good guys battling evil? Entertain and transport us, Marvel and DC Comics. I say, BRING IT ON! I don’t care who wins the battle as long as you keep us entertained. We’re ready and waiting to be transported to both of your universes!
