Alucard Update: Lapel redesign

Attention Hellsing fans!! AbbyShot has more news about the upcoming Alucard trench. When we last gave you an update, this design was 75% complete with a 2nd draft of the pattern finished and lined sample was sewn.

As is often the case at AbbyShot, we went back to the drawing board to rework our 'in progress' design. After all, it isn't easy being screen-accurate! ;)   For Alucard's red trench, we felt that the lapel was not hanging quite right. Our design team worked around the clock just before our trip to DragonCON to redesign and then make this sample coat. You'll notice that the lapel now folds and hangs at the correct angle. This is the result of changing the location and angle of the notched collar - nice work, Design Team!!

As some of you have pointed out to us, the red Silk~Wind isn't quite dark enough. While it is fine for using to refine the design details, we are currently working on sourcing a blood-red replacement fabric for the finished version. Let us know what you think.

The talented designers and sewing machine operators at AbbyShot Clothiers continue to push the limits and innovate. Here is a Black Stampede Duster with snaps, made with Silk~Wind instead of Commander. We took a few photos to show off this cool new coat. AbbyShot offers a variety of fabric options for your custom made coat - we'll even send you samples of different fabrics if you're having a hard time deciding. :-)

Coming Soon! Real Leather Trenchcoats!!

It's no secret that AbbyShot has been cooking up some cool new designs over the Summer. We've taunted and teased for a long time about leather versions of our products for months (for years in some cases!!) :-) Well, to continue in that tradition we have just added some new pages to the Coming Soon section of AbbyShot.com.

Coming Soon! leather trenchcoats!
Real Leather... There's just no comparison.

The real story on leather coats (Stampede Duster, Cleric Custom, Sunstalker Trench) is that we debuted these designs at DragonCon 2004, and we spent a great deal of time getting those coats ready for that show. Sewing with leather (a hide) is very different from sewing with woven fabrics, such as wool or twill. It was a steep learning curve for everyone at AbbyShot, but we're glad that we decided to try. By the way these coats look, we think we've done well.

You may notice that the Leather Trench coats are grouped together on one 'Coming Soon' page. The reason for this is that they all come from existing AbbyShot designs. Most of what we want to share and discuss with our members regarding leather is our experience in making the new coats possible. So rather than repeat ourselves on three different 'coming soon' pages, we thought it would be better to address it all in the one place. There will be more information coming regarding each design in the coming weeks.

Our suppliers and friends in the industry are helping us bring in some specialized leather sewing equipment that will make leather working a smoother process. We have also done our homework, talking with other leather professionals, studying the various techniques, and in the process acquiring a small library or reference material! :-) We want to introduce the leather versions into our product line, but only when it can be done smoothly and without extended delays for you, our customers. So please bare with us... this has been a real learning experience for AbbyShot and the results are fabulous! It will certainly be worth the wait!! :-)

Very soon you too can wear this garment!
Kingdom Hoodie!
Perfect for just relaxing in!

AbbyShot has been very sneaky lately...
We've been developing a new product and not telling anyone about it - yeah, we're pretty darn sneaky!!

This new design is called the Kingdom Hoodie and it's inspired by our Enigma trenchcoat. It has all the same design features as our Enigma Trench, right down to the stitchlines and even the beaded necklace, but in a hoodie!! :-) We're almost ready to release this one, so expect this to be a very short "coming soon" item! Check out our progress on the Kingdom Hoodie Coming Soon page!

DragonCon Report
AbbyShot at DragonCon!
This is actually one of the
SLOW periods! We were
usually very tired at the
end of each evening!

A big thanks to everyone who visited our booth at DragonCon!! We had a great time in the exhibitors hall and during our costuming panel discussion. It was an eye opening experience for all of us at AbbyShot. There were so many things to do at DragonCon that we couldn't fit it all into one weekend, which means we'll just have to go back next year!!

AbbyShot at DragonCon!
AS and some of our
long-time customers!

DragonCon was our first big fan convention and it was the first time that we actually got to see some of our customers face to face. From the minute the doors opened at the convention hall our booth was a flurry of acitivity. It sure was a lot of work; but we were so happy to meet you guys in person and that made it worth all of the effort. A couple of people even told us that WE were the reason that they came to DragonCon!! Don't worry, we won't let that go to our heads though! ;-)

We truly value putting a name to a face. Being at DragonCon gave us a chance to meet so many of our friends and customers. Sometimes we would recognize them from Oics on the forum, like Phear the Spork. Others were cleverly disguised in Stargate (SG-1) costumes, like Eric.

Some of the handmade
costumes were real works
of art!

You Flerkin Lurkers are an interesting bunch - we hope to meet many more of you as we attend more Cons. And should you be at a Con with AbbyShot, please introduce yourself with your Forum name (like Halcyonate and Ryukumon did). Of course, if you don't have an online handle, your real name is fine too! Who knows, maybe you'll like hanging out with AS so much that you'll sign up on our forum as soon as you get home! (here's looking at you Mr. Buck Choklit!!) :-)

AbbyShot at DragonCon!
AS got to meet the stars of
the New Zealand sci-fi
series 'The Tribe'!
check our their site:
www.tribeworld.com

We debuted several new designs at DragonCON so you should definitely take minute to check out our Kingdom Hoodie; our Leather Trench Coats and Alucard's Trench. Most of you didn't even know that we were working on the hoodie - but we're pretty sure that you'll like it! :-) The feedback that you gave us on our designs and our leather coats has been quite helpful. :-)

We can't wait for our next convention and we're looking at events all over the US and Canada. We're looking into San Diego's ComiCon and a few other events for 2005. Be sure to check out the Conventions forum. Who knows, maybe you can meet up with the Flerkin' Lurkers at your next con!!

AbbyShot goes to the movies, literally.

Dozens of international film makers will visit St. John's next month for the 15th Annual Women's Film Festival. "A week-long screening series of 50-70 works by women directors, producers and writers also features a workshop/seminar series, galas, receptions and other networking events. This dynamic event attracts over 4,000 film industry players and enthusiasts from around the province, Canada and the rest of the world." - from their web site. AbbyShot will be there, to showcase yet another new design. The coat is a reproduction of the 'Femme Fatale' look characterized by leading ladies of the 1930's and 40's.

The coat will be on display throughout the festival, starting on October 20th at the St. John's Arts and Culture Center. AbbyShot's Agent Foran will be on hand as well; showing off the company's designs.

Throughout the festival, audience members will have the opportunity to bid on the coat by way of silent auction. The proceeds will support the festival and its programs.
