What is your current completion time for orders?

The completion time during the regular season on orders is 4-6 weeks, with shipping times varying from 3-7 days depending on where in the world you live. Abbyshot coats have become such a popular item for Christmas, that we had to extend the usual turn around time to 6-8 weeks during the time leading up to December 25th, with the shipping time remaining the same. After Christmas, this turnaround time will return to the usual 4-6 weeks.

What are the shipping times and costs?

Our shipping times are determined by which carrier you choose on the order form. Canada Post's "Xpresspost" service is usually 3-7 business days while courier times are usually 2-4 business days. The costs are determined by a combination of the carrier and your geographical region. The order form will display an appropriate total with the shipping cost itemized on it.

Do you ship to my country?

AbbyShot ships worldwide, exporting its products directly to over 25 different countries. We happily ship our products anywhere in the world, no matter where you are. When you place your order with us, your shipping costs are automatically calculated for you based on your location. Please Note: International purchases may be subject to additional import duty fees as determined by your government customs agency - these fees do not come from us, but are charged to you by your government, and thus are the responsibility of the customer.

The Garment Itself

Garment production, construction and reproduction.

Aren't your clothes just Halloween costumes?

Our garments are meant to not only look like the movie versions, not only look good, but are also meant to be worn and enjoyed on an every day basis. Making "real clothes", not costumes, is an important distinction to us, and a level of quality that we take pride in.

How do your trenchcoats stand up to rough treatment? Could they be worn on a daily basis, come in contact (hard) with grass, pavement, gravel or wood (such as tree bark, twigs, stumps and other various flora; prickly or otherwise)?

Like any garment, the fabrics aren't indestructable. We sell clothing, not body armor! :-) We consider our twill and pleather fabrics to be of a durable nature, but we also haven't given it such extreme testing. Our trenchcoats should last for many years of ordinary, everyday wear.

Could I wear your clothing in colder weather?

While our trenchcoats are made from either twill or pleather and have a kasha lining, they aren't specifically designed to be an insulated winter coat. They should be warm enough under many circumstances, but for extremely cold or extremely windy days you may wish to wear a sweater underneath. Conversely, our wool trenchcoats are notably warmer and thus may not be suitable for the higher summer temperatures. All of our trenchcoats incorporate a few inches of ease of wear in their dimensions so that you can wear them and still have a full range of movement without feeling restricted by the fabric.

Where do you get your clothing patterns?

All our AbbyShot patterns are original, completely designed from the ground up. We use the latest industrial methods of apparel manufacturing, pattern design, and construction, which we feel results in a superior product that is screen accurate as well as stylish and durable.

Do you sell your clothing patterns? Where can I buy patterns of your products?

No, sorry, we don't sell our patterns. We spend anywhere from 2-6 months researching and developing each product. Our pattern drafters studied for years at fashion institutes, learning the industrial techniques needed to construct clothing patterns from the initial design sketch on up to the finished product. Countless hours are spent by our staff studying the original source material, making (and remaking) patterns and sample coats, adjusting and readjusting our designs until they're just right. Many people seem to believe that purchasing the design specifications for something is cheaper than purchasing the finished product. This is confusing since no one would expect this of the computer or automotive industry. To purchase the design would include paying for the time and expertise that went into creating the design as well as purchasing the ability to make as many copies of the same item as you pleased. How could this possibly be cheaper than purchasing a single copy of that item? None the less, pattern requests are a common email that we receive from time to time.

Are these exact replicas of the original?

All our designs are meant to be as close to the movie versions as possible. This includes many details that aren't commonly noticed by the average person. Our pattern drafters are professionally trained and have a keen eye for the necessary details that go into recreating garments.

Do you make clothing for the movies?

While we have made a few specific garments for some smaller, independent films, AbbyShot has yet to "make it big" and design or produce any clothing for a movie. We'd love to do this, but it hasn't happened yet. Any of the garments you see on our site so far are recreations based on us studying the source material as carefully as possible and then creating our own interpretation of that garment. Any production company who would like to discuss AbbyShot designing or creating unique garments for their film is certainly welcome to contact us. We can guarantee that you will be extremely happy with our creative abilities as well as our garment quality.

Are all your screen-accurate designs licensed?

No, so far only our Silent Bob Coat is an officially licensed product. All of our other designs are inspired by the originals, and are unofficial creations that are not affiliated with their source inspirations.

So how can you make a copy that's not licensed? Isn't that copyright infringement?

Intellectual Property, Patent and Copyright Laws are very complicated, contradictory and downright confusing at times, so we're not going to try and explain everything or make an ironclad case for our garment designs. For any legal situation, one can find exceptions and loopholes if you search long enough. What the thousands of pages of laws basically boils down to is this: So long as you're not 100% directly copying a given product, design or idea, then you are creating a unique item that is inspired by the original item and it is not considered infringement.

To apply this generalized statement to one of our products, our Lobby Trenchcoat is a recreation of the trenchcoat as worn by the character "Neo" in the movie "The Matrix". Our Lobby Trench was designed and created by AbbyShot staff by studying the movie, posters, press photos as well as applying our years of knowledge about garment design and construction. This design is deliberately intended to look as much like what one saw in the film as is possible, but it is not a 100% duplicate of the garment that actor Keannu Reaves wore on the set of The Matrix when he portrayed Neo. The only way that our Lobby Trench would be 100% accurate would be if we had snuck onto the set and stole Mr. Reaves costume! Since the design isn't millimeter for millimeter, or stitch for stitch exactly the same, and since we are not displaying our Lobby Trench as though it is an official, "Warner Bros. sanctioned" movie garment, there is no copyright infringement occuring. If instead we were refering to our Lobby as THE Matrix Neo Coat & using the movie logo or screencaps, then things might be different, but we're not so that's not an issue. Instead, we're making a high-quality garment that has the same style of appearance as the movie garment, but is independently created by us. To some people this may sound like we're splitting hiars, but trust us, it is distinctions like this which further the careers of Corporate IP lawyers and the fine difference between "a direct copy of" and "inspired by" is extremely important!

There's a design I'd like you to do, can I suggest it?

We appreciate and encourage visitor suggestions. We'll check them out and review them for a possible future product. Also, if you can send us any images (photo, sketch or otherwise) of what you have in mind that will help speed up the whole process. If this is from a movie, TV show, comic or computer game please mention the source for us so that we may do some research on it ourselves. If you're proposing an original idea, then a detailed description (preferably with a few sketches if possible) is a definite necessity.

Hey! I suggested a design and you didn't make it, what gives?

Thank you very much for the design suggestion. We're very grateful for every suggestion that comes in. However, we reserve the right to select which designs become AbbyShot creations. Plainly put, we get a lot of suggestions. Even suggestions with popular demand will sometimes take a long time to be developed, if at all. Sometimes a design will not see the light of day for a variety of reasons, everything from "we're too busy right now", to "we can't find a critical component of this design", to "we're focusing on something else right now and that idea has to wait". Please don't take it personally if your favourite design doesn't come to pass. If your idea becomes an AbbyShot garment, then hooray! If not, then rest assured that it has been given due consideration.

Are you ever going to offer clothing that's not based on movies, TV, computer games or anime?

One day we will be offering original designs from AbbyShot. When this will be and what the designs will be is a different matter. We're carefully expanding our business and don't wish to rush into a line of apparel that is ill considered or poorly conceived. When AbbyShot does release original designs, they will be fantastic, and we will be making a lot of announcements about it.

The Fine Print

AbbyShot's policies and guarantees.

What is your Payment Policy?

All orders require payment in full before production is begun on an order. The standard production times are listed throughout our site, however the most current completion times are available by contacting us directly. It is possible to request an order to be produced faster than the standard production times. This is refered to as a Rush Order. The exact delevery times and fees for a Rush Order are to be decided on a case by case basis and must be agreed upon prior to beginning production on an order.

What is your Garment Quality Guarantee?

If within 30 days you find anything wrong with the sewing or materials of any clothing you buy from us that was due to our negligence or mistake, we will fix it for free. This product must not be altered in any way. This includes fabric defects, but does not cover disliking your fabric choice after receiving your product. Fabric samples are available for free and if you are unsure of what fabric to use for your order, please request samples beforehand. For legitimate cases of product defect, you can return your order for repair or replacement. All you do is pay for the shipping and handling.

Also, you are strongly encouraged to follow the guidelines below for returning a garment, as they will ensure the most reliable and economical means of delivering your garment to us. AbbyShot is not responsible for any duty fees that may occur from returning your garment. If duty fees occur they will be charged to you along with a nominal handling fee for processing this additional expense. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser of the product and is non-transferable.

What is your Custom Fitting Policy?

Custom fitting means that we will adjust the dimensions of our garments to accomodate the measurements we request as supplied by the customer. This only applies to the requested measurements for a particular product. Additional, non-requested measurement specifications do not qualify for this policy. We fit to within a 1/2 inch or 1.27 cm of the confirmed measurements, variations of fitting amounts lower than this minimum do not qualify for this policy. The finished measurements of your garment will include varying amounts of additional movement room or "ease of wear" that is different for each product design. When processing your order we will review your measurements for accuracy and conformity to known variations in body proportions. Should there be any questions regarding the order measurements, we will request measurement confirmation. Orders will not be started until both AbbyShot and the customer have agreed upon a confirmed set of measurements. It will be these confirmed measurements that will be referenced when fulfilling our One Free Refitting Policy and our Product Returns Policy.

What is your Customizations Policy?

Every product has a standard design for its appearance, features and function. Each product may also have a set of predefined available options that may be added to the default version of the product. Anything else added or altered on this design is considered a customization of your order that is beyond the standard pricing options of the product and will require a separate quote for pricing on a per customization basis. Examples of a customization are measurement specifications beyond the requested measurements, extra features not offered as a standard option, or any changes to the structure or design of that product. Each individual customization quote only applies to a specific order and does not apply to all orders or all product designs. Customizations must be agreed upon before we begin construction of the garment and will be billed to the customer upon acceptance of the customization quote. AbbyShot reserves the right to deny a requested customization should we deem that it can not be applied to a specific product. As a general rule, AbbyShot does not usually allow customizations to a set size garment.

What is your One Free Refitting Policy?

This policy only applies to custom fitted orders, and is intended to cover instances where the confirmed measurements for an order are not followed by us such that the finished garment does not fit the intended customer properly. In such a case where this is due to our error, then we will gladly refit your garment for free, providing that the customer contacts us within 10 days of receiving the item. We request that you contact us in writing (email prefered) with specific information regarding just where your garment doesn't fit and including both updated measurements and photos showing the fitting problem. The more information you supply, the better able we will be to refit your garment. AbbyShot is not responsible for a poor fit due to inadequate fitting information.

Items for return must be sent to AbbyShot within 14 days of arranging a return. The finished measurements of your garment will include varying amounts of additional movement room or "ease of wear" that is different for each product design. We fit to within a 1/2 inch or 1.27 cm of the confirmed measurements, variations of fitting amounts lower than this minimum do not qualify for this policy. When returning clothing as part of this policy they must be clean, odour free (eg.smoke) and not have any signs of wear or alteration. Custom fitted orders are non-refundable. Please refer to our Product Returns Policy and our Cancellations Policy. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser of the product and is non-transferable.

What is your Set Sizes Fit Policy?

Should you order a set size product from us and it does not fit, then you may exchange it within 10 days of receiving the item for a different size. Items for exchange must be sent to AbbyShot within 14 days of arranging a exchange. Please follow the guidelines below for returning a garment. When returning clothing as part of this policy they must be clean, odour free (eg.smoke) and not have any signs of wear or alteration. All you do is pay for the shipping and handling. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser of the product and is non-transferable.

What is your Product Returns Policy?

If there is nothing wrong with the quality or fit of your garment and you wish to simply return it, we apologise but we are unable to accept a refund on the basis of the customer changing their mind after the fact. Please be certain that you want our garments before purchasing. For matters of fitting, please refer to our Custom Fitting Policy, our One Free Refitting Policy, and our Set Sizes Fit Policy.

How do I actually return a garment?

When shipping your coat to us, we recommend that you use a delivery method that will provide you with some form of tracking and insurance on the package. If your coat never reaches us we'll be very sympathetic, but ultimately it isn't our fault. If you're not sure if the method you intend to use includes such features, ask the shipper before giving them your package. You don't want to find out after the fact. All shipping and handling fees are your responsibility. If using a courier service to return your garment, it is not acceptable to copy our courier business account number onto your package. We will bill you for the shipping fees and charge an additional processing fee for handling this charge due to the ungranted use of our courier account.

To satisfy the regulations of Canada Customs, you must include the exact phrase, "Canadian Goods being returned" on the shipping information and the package itself. This isn't our regulation, it's Canada Customs. We won't be able to accept any returned packages without this. Should there be any customs or duty fees as a result of sending your package to us, we will charge them to you along with a nominal fee for processing this additional charge. To avoid any unnecessary additional fees, please ensure that you are using only your own personal customer information as the shipper and that you elect to pay all shipping, handling and duty fees. Under most circumstances, properly labelling your package as a returned item as specified above should eliminate any customs dutys.

The address to use in sending the package to us is the same one that is listed on our Contact Us page, please refer to it when addressing your package. It is also best to inform us that you will be returning your package and furthermore inform us when you have actually sent it, otherwise we may not know what's going on when a garment arrives unexpectedly at our offices!

What is your Cancellations Policy?

The terms of our Cancellations Policy depend on whether you purchased a set size garment or a custom fitted garment. The cost for cancelling a paid set size order is $50.00 USD. The remainder of your original purchase price will be refunded within 30 days of cancellation. As an alternative that does not involve a cancellation fee, you can exchange your set size order for AbbyCash Gift Certificates of an equal value. AbbyCash Gift Certificates are non-refundable.

If your custom fitted order has the "New Order" or "Processing" status, then the fee for cancelling your paid order is $100.00 USD. The remainder of your original purchase price will be refunded within 30 days of cancellation. If your order has reached the "In Progress" or "Shipped" status, then we apologise, it is too late. Work has begun on your custom fitted order and we are unable to offer a refund or exchange for AbbyCash.

What is your Privacy Policy?

The short version: Any information that we gather from you remains confidential. AbbyShot hates spam just as much as you do. We will never share your email address or personal information. AbbyShot is compliant with Canadian privacy and anti-spam laws and is very respectful of your personal information. For those who want all the nitty-gritty details, our full privacy policy is available for you to review as well.

What is your Happy Customer Policy?

What's this AbbyShot newsletter thing, and how do I get it?

Subscribers to our email newsletter receive advance notice of upcoming products and product release dates before they reach our web site. You can subscribe to our newsletter by visiting your member profile. You can also read back issues of our newletter on the newsletters page

Where are you located?

AbbyShot Clothiers Limited has its international headquarters located on the island province of Newfoundland, Canada. (our mailing address is listed on our Contact Us page) Newfoundland is a large island with a unique culture that has been here for over 400 years. We're stuck far out into the north Atlantic Ocean (so far out that we have our own official 1/2 hour time zone!). Newfoundland is a beautiful place with breathtaking natural scenery. Everyone should come visit Newfoundland at least once in their lifetime! Not that we're biased or anything... :-)

Where can I buy AbbyShot clothing? Do you have retail outlets?

For starters, you can buy our clothing directly from us on our web site. We don't currently have any AbbyShot clothing outlets, however we do have plans to offer select designs in speciality clothing stores in a variety of locations worldwide. Of course, developing a planet-wide network of distributors and retail outlets to carry AbbyShot garments isn't something that happens overnight by any means. As we add more and more locations we'll list them on our web site. For now, our web site is still the primary means for most people to buy our clothing. Lastly, there are a number of conventions that AbbyShot attends each year which present opportunities for the public to meet us and our clothing in person. As we approach the date of a specific event which we are attending, we will publicize it on our web site and in our newsletter.

What's with the name "AbbyShot"?

Our business name was inspired by the story of Abby Singer, a Hollywood Director and Producer who was responsible for the invention of the filmmaking term, the "Abby Singer Shot" or the "Abby Shot". During the 50's and 60's, when other movie Directors were calling out the last scene of filming at a given day or location as the "Last Shot", Abby would call out the "Last Shot! ... and then one more!". This got to be a bit of a joke at first, with no one believing Abby when he'd call out his last shot, instead saying that Abby's last shot was never really the last - it was the "Abby Singer Shot". Abby got the last laugh though, since by calling out the last two or three scenes he was giving the set crew advance notice that it was safe to begin packing up all equipment not needed save just what was required for those last 2-3 scenes. By doing this, Abby Singer's productions were more time-efficient and frequently within or even under budget, while getting in even more shooting time for extra scenes or retakes of scenes. When people relaized what his motivations were, they quickly stopped laughing and started copying. Soon, the "Abby Singer Shot" was being used by filmmakers around the world and today is one of the institutionalized phrases in moviemaking parlance. To us, this story captures the themes of cleverness and forward thinking that we believe in. We also feel that by offering movie-inspired clothing to the public, that we're giving "one more shot" for people to experience something special from their favourite movies. On top of all of this, the word "AbbyShot" is easy to say, easy to spell, easy to remember, and wasn't being used by anyone else as a business name. So that's our name.

Why screen-accurate clothing?

Why not? No one else was doing it! Seriously though, there are few opportunities these days to pioneer a completely new genre, and when we started AbbyShot Clothiers the main way that people thought of clothing from movies or anime was as costumes only. The idea of building a business around the concept of screen-accurate clothing that is both true to the look as seen in movies, TV, anime and even computer games, as well as also being wearable on an everyday basis is ours. Were there other people selling clothing that technically was a "movie replica"? Sure, but again, the focus was primarily on more costuming-oriented garments and even then it wasn't often the primary focus of such businesses. We carved out our own niche in the clothing world. We're not alone anymore, but we are still leading the way in this field. There's lots of room for others and we welcome the company, but make no mistake, there's only one AbbyShot! :-)
